James Alexander Smith was a mining engineer and was working in New 
Zealand when Thelma was born and in Meekathara, West Australia when 
Keith was born. The family moved to Urriarra, NSW (where Sarah's family
lived), in 1910 because Thelma was a sickly child and the cooler, 
moister climate of central NSW was better for her health. James 
returned to Meekatharra in approximately 1917 and lived there until 
his death in 1933.
